Senior director of laboratory services and platform expansion

Day zero diagnostics

Nicole is a molecular microbiologist with a career interest in developing novel, whole genome sequencing based platforms for infectious disease diagnostics, with a particular focus on complex sample types with biofilm associated and polymicrobial infections. She is currently the Sr. Director of Laboratory Services and Platform Expansion at Day Zero Diagnostics, a venture capital funded company developing a rapid diagnostic for inpatient use that enables a physician to use targeted antibiotics the day a patient is admitted—Day Zero. Since joining DZD late in 2017, Nicole has worked directly on technical advancements key to the company’s mission, including early development on DZD’s pipeline that enables ultra-high enrichment of bacteria direct from a human blood specimen.

She has also led the effort toward establishing DZD’s CLIA compliant laboratory for high- complexity genomic testing, including CLIA validation of DZD's first product, EpiXact®, a rapid turnaround whole genome sequencing and analysis service toward healthcare-associated outbreak investigations. Additionally,  she is leading the efforts toward diagnostic platform expansion for other sample types (urine, respiratory, etc) across both Lab Services and IVD development.
